Recall roundup: Hyundai Veloster in Australia

Hyundai has recently announced a recall for the Veloster in Austria because of a problem with the model’s panoramic glass sunroof.

After announcing a recall back in December 2012 for the Hyundai Veloster in the United States because of a problem with the panoramic glass roof, time has come for the carmaker to expand the recall to Australia too, because of the same problem. According to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), a total of 882 units of the Hyundai Veloster will be affected by this recall, and their owners will have to take a trip back to the dealers.

“The panoramic sunroof glass may have been damaged when fitted to the vehicle. A damaged sunroof glass may fracture unexpectedly when the vehicle is parked or being driven. If the defect occurs, it may pose a laceration hazard to occupants of the vehicle”, as the ACCC’s official website is explaining.

A total of 882 units of the Hyundai Veloster sold in Australia between the 1st of November 2011 and the 17th of April 2012 will be affected by this problem. The recall is expected to start soon but Hyundai Australia didn’t announce an exact date for the moment. We advise you to contact your local Hyundai dealer if you own a Hyundai Veloster equipped with the panoramic glass sunroof.

Samsung Galaxy S4 To Feature ‘Eye Scroll’ And ‘Eye Pause’ Technology (Rumor)

We have been hearing
a lot of information about the new Samsung Galaxy S4 over the last few days, earlier today we heard that the Galaxy S4 would feature new display technology and now we have some details on a couple of new features that may be headed to Samsung’s Galaxy S4.
Samsung has filed for two new trademarks in Europe, both trademarks are for application software for smartphones, tablets and computers, they are called Eye Scroll and Eye Pause.

Samsung filed the trademark requests with the European Union just a few days ago on the 21st of January, and whilst there are no details with the filings on what these two new trademarks will actually do, their names give us a possible idea on what they will be used for.
If the Samsung Galaxy S4 does comes with these new features, then we suspect that it will use some sort of eye tracking technology , for example with Eye Pause, if you are watching a video, and your eyes move away from the display to look at something else the feature could possibly pause the video you were watching.
With regards to the Eye Scroll feature, this could be used when you are browsing a web page on your device, as your eyes scroll down the screen display, then the tracking technology could take you to the next part of the web page.
Of course these two functions have yet to be announced by Samsung, and there were no details with the patent filings, so these are just a guess at what these trademarks may cover.

Safaricom announces the Yolo, Africa's first Intel-powered smartphone

Intel is finally opening its wings and spreading its mobile influence to Africa, as Kenya's Safaricom has officially introduced the Yolo phone. The device, which will be the very first Intel-powered smartphone on the continent, will be priced at Kshs 10,999 ($126) and bundled with 500MB of data. The handset supports HSPA+ network connectivity and packs a Z2420 Atom processor that reaches speeds of up to 1.2GHz. If that CPU sounds familiar, it should, because it's the same "Lexington" chip that we sampled a few weeks back at CES. As for the rest of the Yolo's specs, you'll be looking at Android 4.0 on a 3.5-inch display and snapping pictures with a 5-megapixel shooter capable of recording 1080p HD video. Not looking to compete with top-shelf handsets, Safaricom hopes to catch the eye of frugal first-time buyers with this budget-friendly device. If you fit the bill, you may want to check out the Yolo as soon as possible -- after all, your phone only lives once.

Cygnett's Art Series iPhone Covers Feature Aboriginal Design

Australian digital accessory designers
and manufacturers Cygnett have released a series of iPhone and iPod covers featuring designs from world-famous and iconic artists.  The ICON Art Series was inspired by Cygnett’s passion for creativity, art and design.
World-renowned Australian Aboriginal artist Ronnie Tjampitjimpa was one of three artists chosen for the ICON Art Series accessories. A fully-initiated Pintupi man, Tjampitjinpa is considered an innovator and one of the grand masters of the Central and Western Desert Art movement.

“Ronnie Tjampitjinpa ignored dots; most of his work is strongly graphic, linear and very bold. Many of his designs are based on the water dreaming design found on pearl shell pendants and the zigzags that encode lightning and thunder – the power to make rain,” comments Judith Ryan, Senior Curator Indigenous Art, National Gallery of Victoria (NGV).
The Ronnie Tjampitjinpa ICON series is based on two works; “Rain Making” based on the original artwork, “Rain Making At Malparingya”, depicts body paint designs associated with rain making ceremonies at the site of Malparingya, slightly south east of Wilkinkarra (Lake Mackay).
“Echidna Dreaming” based on the original artwork, “Echidna Dreaming At Tjungaringya”, depicts body paint designs associated with Tingari ceremonies relating to the Tjilkamata (Echidna) Dreaming at the claypan and rockhole site of Tjungaringya, south of Lake Mackay.
Internationally-renowned, Bronx-based professional muralists TATS CRU and Australian-born illustrator and artist Nathan Jurevicius, the creator of the Scarygirl graphic novel series, are the other two artists to have their work featured on Cygnett accessories.
To document the exciting collaboration between Cygnett and Ronnie Tjampitjimpa, Cygnett have filmed a series of short films – “Papunya Tula Stories” – the first of which features in interview with Ronnie on location at Kintore, 500 kms west of Alice Springs, Northern Territory.

Meet the 2014 Lexus IS 350 F-Sport

Toyota’s luxury brand Lexus has recently released the
very first official images with the brand new 2014 IS 350 F-Sport, ahead of its public debut scheduled for the 2013 Detroit Motor Show The 2014 Lexus IS has been already teased a couple of times but now the model is being placed into the spotlights for the first time with the help of a few official images, which are revealing its exterior and interior designs. According to the car manufacturer, the 2014 Lexus IS in question is a 350 F-Sport and this means that the model is coming with an aerodynamic body kit, with a tuned chassis, with a lowered suspension, a sportier interior design and more.

Power to the 2014 Lexus IS will be provided by a 2.5 liter V6 engine which should produce a total output of 200 HP (149 kW), being followed by the 3.5 liter V6 with its 300 HP (224 kW) and by the hybridized 2.5 liter four-cylinder, generating 240 HP (179 kW). The last one will be able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and it will reach a top speed of 225 km/h (140 mph). Thanks to its CVT, the model will be able to burn 3.8 L / 100 km of fuel (73 mpg UK / 60.7 mpg US) and emit under 100 g/km of CO2. More details on the model will be announced during the 2013 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit.
